Sophia is a contemporary artist who paints the emotional architecture of being a woman. Each work explores femininity, intimacy, desire, connection, and self-actualisation. Her work begins with specific emotional experiences—moments of longing, exaltation, tenderness, eroticism, vulnerability, or profound connection—and attempts to translate their interior logic into visual form.

Working primarily through abstract shapes and semi-intuitive composition, Ashton approaches each painting as both an emotional record and a philosophical inquiry. Every work is anchored to a particular idea or question: an attempt to understand something felt deeply but not easily explained. The resulting paintings occupy a space between abstraction and personal mythology.

Pink is central to Ashton’s visual language. Every painting exists within a world of pink—not as a decorative or traditionally feminine gesture, but because she considers pink the colour most capable of expressing her interior reality. Sensual and romantic, expressive and vulnerable, pink becomes a kind of emotional atmosphere: a way of making an internal landscape visible.

Her work is particularly interested in the threshold of womanhood—the unstable territory between girlhood and adulthood, innocence and desire, self-consciousness and self-exaltation. Intimacy appears throughout her practice not only as romantic or erotic connection, but as a fundamental human desire to be witnessed, understood, and known.

Raised between the South of France and Arizona, she is deeply inspired by the visual language of both places—the romanticism and history of French culture are expressed through her painterly brushstrokes, while her geometric forms imitate the midcentury-modern architecture often found in her native American Southwest.
